| Charles Cooper with his son John Cooper formed the Cooper Car Company
in the year 1946 at Surrey in England. Along with John's friend, Eric
Brandon the father and son duo started making racing cars and some
of the automobiles they came out with made history. During the 1950s
and early 1960s, these single-seat and rear-engined cars created history
in automobile racing and changed the ways of the Indianapolis 500
and the Formula One too. The domination of the Mini Cooper had begun.
Between 1951 and 1954, the Cooper automobile won 64 out of 78 major
races. Seeing the several victories, many other racing drivers also
wanted the car, and thus the Cooper Car Company was established. To
begin with the automobile was known as the Cooper 500 after the 500cc
engines that the car had. The Mini Cooper was introduced in 1961as
a development to the earlier models. |
